Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation
Bear Wise Jackson Hole Education and Outreach
$5,000

In 2008 and 2009, 40 bear conflicts were reported in Teton County, resulting in the loss
of four bears and the forced relocation of 29. Research shows that 98% of people using bear spray came away uninjured, while 40% of encounters involving firearms resulted in serious injury or death. This grant will fund a Wyoming Game and Fish and Bridger-Teton National Forest pilot project to provide information on safe recreation in bear country and to distribute approximately 200 canisters of bear spray in Teton County to hunters, outfitters and other backcountry enthusiasts not currently using it.

Teton Raptor Center
Raptor Rescue Ambassador Program
$7,500
Not only are raptors leading scientific indicators of a healthy environment, they are also awe-inspiring avian species admired by residents and visitors alike. Each day, birds of prey are injured or orphaned due to window strikes, vehicular encounters, poisonings, electrocutions and habitat loss. In order to accept injured raptors 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Teton Raptor Center depends upon a robust, engaged, committed, and well-trained volunteer core. Grant funds will be used to hire a part-time Raptor Rescue Ambassador Coordinator who will formalize volunteer activities and lead the transition of scheduling and rehabilitation plans from manual book entry to a dynamic online interface with a centralized database.
