Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir
2010-2011 Community Concert Series
$1,500

Jackson residents are fortunate enough to have countless opportunities to enjoy good music. As the only audition-based, chamber-style choral group, Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir fills a unique niche in the music community. With money from the Community Foundation grant, CVCC will perform four free community concerts, two in December 2010 and two in May 2011. Funds will cover printing and production costs, in addition to a multimedia marketing campaign, in order to reach a targeted attendance goal of 250 at each performance.

Community Center for the Arts
Resident Rent Subsidy
$10,000

The Community Center for the Arts provides resident organizations with a professional venue to deliver their programs to the public. However, as a result of the high rental fee, many organizations must charge admission or seek alternative spaces and, consequently, many people cannot or do not attend what might otherwise be free educational and cultural programs. These funds will allow the Center for the Arts to subsidize rents for its 17 resident organizations and also cover a portion of the cost of running the Center Theater. Subsidies will be granted based on collaboration among organizations, and with the Center’s support, they will be able to bring their programs to a wider audience without adversely impacting their budgets.

C-V Ranch
Arts Programming
$5,695

Arts opportunities are extremely beneficial to C-V students combating issues with self-esteem, motivation, depression and anger. Not only do these programs promote confidence and enrich students’ lives, but they also enhance students’ attitudes about themselves and their futures, increase academic achievement and decrease delinquent behavior. This grant will fund a collaborative project among C-V and local arts organizations, bringing Jackson artists and instructors to the school for a series of multi-disciplinary workshops. Competitive grant dollars will fund 20 “Art Days” during the 2010-2011 school year, including classes in drawing, painting, art appreciation, lifetime crafts, sculpture, music and dance.

Dancers’ Workshop
The Chamber Ensemble of New York City Ballet
$10,000

The Chamber Ensemble of the New York City Ballet, a group of twelve dancers, seven musicians and nine technical and staff members from one of the most prestigious dance companies in the world, has never toured before or performed outside of New York. However, Dancers’ Workshop will bring them to Jackson for a weeklong residency in August. In addition to three performances, the Chamber Ensemble will teach classes and open their rehearsals to the public. Grant funds will help to offset the cost of free, open rehearsals in the Center Theater and to keep performance ticket prices reasonable.

Jackson Hole Chorale
Ageless Music in Jackson
$1,400

In a rural area like Jackson with limited public transportation, senior citizens have more difficulty taking advantage of the many social and cultural opportunities that our community has to offer. Currently the Jackson Hole Chorale performs three to four times for seniors during the holiday season and once in the spring. However, with this grant, they will be able to sing for seniors in all seasons in more of the community’s senior facilities. Specifically, funds will be used to advertise, purchase copyrighted music and songbooks and provide a stipend for an accompanist.

Jackson Hole Music Experience
Afterschool! Program
$5,000

As music programs in Teton County Schools become increasingly popular, they are also becoming overcrowded. Due to limited funding, students who are talented and enthusiastic about music often do not receive the instruction necessary to improve, and for many families, private instruction is not financially viable. Afterschool! is an established program that offers individual instruction in band and orchestral instruments and affordable, weekly ensemble rehearsals taught by regional musicians and teachers to all residents in Teton County. This grant from the Community Foundation will be used to purchase music and to pay instructors and the Program Director.

National Museum of Wildlife Art
Venue for Community Presentations
$5,500

While the National Museum of Wildlife Art waived or discounted rental fees for nonprofit organizations seeking auditorium space for community presentations in 2009, a tighter budget this year will prohibit the Museum from offering this service. Grant funds from the Community Foundation will offset personnel and facilities expenses for 11 nonprofit events in 2010. Money that would otherwise have been spent by organizations on securing a venue will now be used to increase attendance and to make events more interesting and affordable.

Off Square Theatre Company
Professional Artist Resident Company & Theater Education
$7,500

Theatre education provides a powerful outlet for children and adults as they gain confidence in the value of their ideas and the power of their imaginations. Not only does participation in theatre correlate to increased scholastic achievement, it also increases the ability of students to work efficiently and develop a sense of inquisitiveness. Grant funds will help develop a professional artists resident company at Off Square in order to encourage theatre participation and educate students in the performing arts.
